Struggling, burned out screenwriter, Herb Tucker is a man settled in his lifestyle with his undemanding girlfriend, Steffy. With the unexpected arrival on his doorstep of the 19-year-old daughter he hasn’t seen since he deserted his New York family 16 years ago, things are about to change. Believing Herb owes her for those missed years, lively and outgoing Libby has hitch-hiked across America for him to “get me into the movies”.
The result is memorable dialogue and great Neil Simon ‘one-liners’ in a warm-hearted comedy which also highlights questions of commitment, love and the age-old mysteries of family relationships.
1. In ‘I Ought to be in Pictures’, Herb (James Mousa) tells daughter, Libby (Morgan Elliston) “I grew up on the streets of New York and now I grow lemons and oranges’.
2. Libby (Morgan Elliston) tells Herb (James Mousa) “One day I may be standing up there getting my Emmy Award or my Grammy or my Oscar….” While a puzzled Steffy (Heather Baker) looks on.
3. A very excited Libby (Morgan Elliston) receives a gift from Steffy (Heather Baker) of a personally signed photo of Jane Fonda, Libby’s idol. In a scene from Cairns Little Theatre’s production of the comedy ‘I Ought to be in Pictures’.
4. Herb (James Mousa) tells Libby (Morgan Elliston) “I had a very big day today. Maybe not in my line of work, but a very big day.” in Cairns Little Theatre’s comedy ‘I Ought to be in Pictures’.
5. Steffy (Heather Baker) tells a worried Herb (James Mousa) “It’s a package deal: To love someone is to be scared every minute of your life.” in "I Ought To Be In Pictures" this September at the Rondo Theatre.
